The GCC Accreditation Center (GAC), in collaboration with the Emirates International Accreditation Center (EIAC) and the Emirates National Accreditation System (ENAS), is set to host the 2024 Annual Meetings of the Asia Pacific Accreditation Cooperation (APAC) in Dubai from July 13 to 18, marking the first such event in the Middle East.
The opening ceremony took place on Monday, July 15, 2024, attended by 65 accreditation bodies and over 250 members of the Asia-Pacific Organization, comprising experts and technicians in accreditation and conformity assessment. Representatives from various countries, accreditation bodies, and affiliated organizations were also present. The ceremony commenced with remarks by His Excellency the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology. Representing ENAS, H.E. Mr. Omar Al Suwaidi, Eng. Moteb S. Al Mezani, Director General of the GCC Accreditation Center, and Ms. Amina Mohammed Ahmed welcomed attendees and officially inaugurated the annual meetings in Dubai, themed “Accreditation: Empowering Tomorrow and Shaping the Future.” This gathering serves as a crucial platform to promote regional cooperation and enhance accreditation practices across the Asia-Pacific region.
Eng. Moteb S. Al Mezani, Director General of the GAC, emphasized the significance of this year’s meetings for fostering excellence and collaboration among accreditation bodies. He stated, “We are privileged to host esteemed colleagues and partners from the Asia-Pacific region to initiate discussions that will define future accreditation standards.” The agenda includes seminars, workshops, and networking sessions focusing on challenges and opportunities in accreditation harmonization. Key topics include quality assurance in testing and calibration, conformity assessment, and the role of accreditation in facilitating international trade.
Hosting this event underscores the GCC Accreditation Center’s commitment to advancing accreditation practices and elevates the Gulf Cooperation Council countries as a prominent hub for regional and international quality infrastructure activities. It aims to streamline trade procedures, unify testing protocols, and enhance mutual recognition of conformity assessment results and certificates.
